The Bow Valley Music Club presents Alberta Night with 3 great acts
Kyle McKearney
Kyle McKearney is making his mark as Canada’s next Americana / Roots export, with the release of his debut solo album, “Down-Home”. Recently named Project Wild’s 2021 Top 12 participant, Kyle’s also garnered 2x YYC Music Award nominations and has amassed over 300,000 global streams in just 8 months.
Born and raised in small-town northern British Columbia, Kyle McKearney grew up immersed in Country and Bluegrass music. He followed that passion by first moving to Nashville upon finishing high school, where he absorbed the city’s atmosphere and learned how much of its classic music was made. Taking these lessons back home, where he’s now settled near Calgary, Alberta, he began applying them to his work on stage and in the studio, all while honing his skills as a singer/songwriter.
After forming a band, Kyle returned to his Americana roots, launching a series of cover song videos that have tallied over 800K views on Facebook alone. From there, he gathered the best musicians he could find to help craft his new signature sound, one in line with the current revolution underway in country music spearheaded by artists such as Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile and Jason Isbell.
Shaela Miller
Shaela Miller’s spent over a decade in Alberta country, and no doubt, her Joan Jett vibe, song-writing chops, and outstanding vocal tone could have put her on a number of paths, but she’s never bowed to the constant, overwrought attention-seeking bombast so common to today’s country radio.
As one of the Canadian prairie underground’s most respected independent artists, Shaela Miller is playing the music she wants to, adding the elements that progress for her vision, while firmly grounded in that go-to sound generation after generation grew up hearing on AM radio in single-cab farm trucks; picked-up shuffles and sweet, yearning songs depicting both the good times and hard times that only get written by someone who’s lived every minute of them.
The Midnight Blue Big Band
Also known as the Midnight Blue Jazz Band, this lively and entertaining group is much more than jazz. They are a “traditional” big band with 17 musicians and vocals whose repertoire spans a wide variety of styles including swing, blues, latin, funk, pop, classic rock or whatever fits the occasion. They like to have fun and audiences are the happy recipients of their enthusiastic sounds.
The Ironwood Stage & Grill has been presenting Little Big Bands for years; it’s high time the BVMC followed their lead.
A foot-tapping way to close out our season.
