2019 – 2020 Season Cancellation Notice
Bow Valley Music Club 2019-2020 concert season cancellation notice
As a direct response to the serious health threat posed by the Coronavirus (Covid-19), the directors of Calgary’s Bow Valley Music Club have cancelled the remaining concerts of the current 2019-2020 season. As you are aware, provincial health authorities are mandating closure of public venues and cancellation of public events to reduce the rate of infection.
As a result, it is sadly necessary that the Club cancel concerts March 14 (previously announced), April 4, April 18 and May 9. Out of respect, affection and safety of our volunteers, technical staff and performers, the Club must now regroup and prepare for our 29th season, which begins in September.
The Club will continue to provide high quality concerts for its supporters, and continue to address its cultural mandate of encouraging and supporting local and international musicians. To date we have already made contractual commitments for the upcoming 2020-2021 season with a range of outstanding performers including: James Keelaghan & Jez Lowe (duo); Irish Mythen; Royal Wood, Martyn Joseph, Madison Violet (Christmas concert), Mike Plume, Stephen Fearing, Leeroy Stagger, Maria Dunn, Ghostboy, Romi Mayes and more!
There is a lot of work to do between now and then. First steps include managing contracts for cancelled shows with performers, our sound crew, and the Strathcona community hall. Our goal is to mitigate impacts as best we can through a focus on fairness. Music professionals, among many others, are facing and will yet face significant financial challenges. The Club will do what it can to help the performers through this difficult period.
In early May the Club will share the full concert lineup for 2020-2021. At the same time the Club will send all supporters a ticket information package including details on several levels of season ticket packages and pricing; single show tickets will be available shortly thereafter.
As of today (March 20, 2020) we will begin working with ticket holders for the cancelled shows (March 14, April 4 & 18, and May 9), and to that end we have three options for our supporters to consider:
1. Donate any tickets you have for cancelled shows. Cancellation of the concerts will have a significant financial impact on those relying on these events for their business and livelihood. Your generous donation of your tickets will help us offset some of those impacts, and help us manage our operating budget in the months ahead and into the new season. The Club is a not-for-profit society, not a registered charity, so unfortunately it cannot offer tax receipts.
2. Apply some or all of the tickets you are holding to the purchase of a season ticket package for 2020-2021. In other words, you can donate some and retain some if you choose. There will be several levels of season ticket options for next season with three concerts being the minimum season-wide commitment. In choosing this option, indicate how many tickets you wish to exchange for next season. You will then be invoiced only for additional tickets you order.
3. You can seek a cash refund of $30 a ticket. Our ticket prices vary somewhat based on the ticket package you purchased, and/or whether you purchased online through Eventbrite. Standardizing the refund amount will allow our volunteers to respond quickly to such requests.
Please contact the Club indicating which option you prefer, or with any questions you may have:
Of course, there would be no Bow Valley Music Club without our dedicated volunteers who collectively provide 100 per cent of the effort required to support the music. The directors respectfully ask that our volunteers take care of themselves and their loved ones, and respect the efforts of health service practitioners, grocery store employees and others who are working during this crisis.
Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. As noted we will be in touch soon, and we are looking forward to seeing you all again in September!
